The North Florida Steel Guitar Association was formed in 2008 by co-founders Bill Lawson and Lonnie Portwood. The initial meeting was held April 4th 2008 and was attended by 17 local and regional players.Thirteen players signed up, paid their dues and became charter members. Those players were: Bill Lawson, Lonnie Portwood, Chuck Haynie, Larry Jarriel, John LeMaster, Chet Gibson, Ernie & Nan Cawby, Harrell Perry, Jack Conyer, JC Hunnicutt, Sandy Sandiford, Jimmy Paschal and Wayne Blackmon.Meetings are held every second Sunday from 2:30 pm until 5:00pm. We have been meeting since May of 2008, at the lake Shore Moose Lodge, 5051 Collins Rd. in SW Jacksonville Fl. 32073.The following was and still is our mission statement.“To provide members/players an opportunity to advance their skills through instruction and sharing/networking with experienced performers, to become better performers through inter-action and to provide a venue from which to exhibit their talents and love for the music of the steel guitar”.
